There's no place like Chrome?

For a little of 3 weeks of my time, I have spent downloading google chrome for PC, linux and mac. I have stood corrected in so many ways it is unreal. Maybe this will help everyone consider chrome.
Just to name a few:
1. There is a faster browser than Firefox. Chrome.
2. There is a more secure browser than safari. Chrome.
3. Chrome has so many abilities for expansion that it will leave you awe struck.
4. Chrome does not, slow down... EVER!
5. There is no place like chrome

Like a standard PC power user, I love to explore all of my options in the OS and Computer world. I never was a fan of Mac's and there awkward Operating system, hardware is amazing I might add though. So when I found Firefox as my replacement for Internet explorer to be the greatest find of the century, I new then I would never experience this again. But boy was I dead wrong, Google Chrome is like switching from Internet Explorer to Firefox, except that instead, your going from your lovely Firefox, to Chrome, something even faster.

Now Google is on the Offensive in the OS world, targeting the biggest community in the world, the linux users. PC users are scattered, and don't like each other very much, Mac users tend to stick close but sound typically like neo-Nazi's. Then we have the Linux community, who google has chosen to be the ring leaders to a new horizon. Google's instructions to even compile their chrome OS Distinctly call for a linux os. Why is this you ask? Because in Linux, source code in everything.

And for the spamming MacHeads that can't seem to keep trying to find holes within my own logic I do have a few responses for you.

Matt writes:
"How can you say mac's are for only artist's? I use my mac for just about everything, something that you find troublesome (like drivers) , I find easy. Apple has more support for programs than Linux ever will, Period."

My Response:

"Dear Matt,

I have some questions I'd like answered.

Did your mac come with Photoshop or did they just nag you to buy it 6 or 7 times?

How does one (Surf the web) in a safari?

If Mac's are soooo compatible with everything, why do I see posts everywhere regarding the same setup. -> I can't get 'BLANK' to work, can anyone help me? I'm on a mac. <-

I'll tell you why, but you will disagree. You operating system is a cheap rip off of unix, and you should consider becoming a Microsoft addict because you love the monopolizing operating systems. People don't write source code for mac's, just like nobody really programs on windows.

You pay out the ass for a machine with half the spec's of a PC and Slap an intel proccessor into it and call it something "Different"? Now whose copying off of who mr. machead? Intel is a pc proccessor, and your T.I. Power PC proccessor's just couldn't keep up. Lastly, If mac's are "ahead of the pc" Then where is your Blu-ray support?

Yours truly,

-Divider

Just to add people, this was his response.

Matt:

"Mac's don't need blu-ray, dvd's are still more than enough storage."

Well matt, I can only conclude that you too are giving mr. jobs a nice slow job on his knob.
I'll tell ya what, I'll send you a copy of Grand theft auto 4 and you can tell me if your "1337 Mac" can handle it.

got root?

90 % of all Americans don't even know what "root access" is.

root access - system level or highest administration level on a system.

So I'm looking through a friends nixbox and he has no idea what "root" is, I tried to explain it to him, that root = admin. I told him that running Linux without knowing what "root" is, will mean ssh just became a playground.

I explained that I didn't even need a root password to become root.

Using the command:

sudo su

I was able to enter root using his password, from there I created my own username.

useradd divider

gave it admin permissions:

usermod -G admin divider

created a password

passwd divider

setup my own home area

mkdir /home/divider

and finally gave me the only rights to it besides root.

chown divider /home/divider

After all this I logged out of ssh and entered as divider, using the command:

ps -u hisusername

I found out that he was physically logging in, I proceeded to find his xserver
and preformed the harshest version of kill on the xserver.

divider@nixbox: sudo kill -9 2489

his system logged him out and closed his x session.

I explained how in Linux, if you have root access you can do anything, and that setting a root password that is by far unhackable by today's dictionary standards would decrease the likely hood of his system getting rooted.

His comment

"holy shit, you could have destroyed my system in like 3 minutes if you wanted."

I replied, "It's scarier than you think, "sudo rm -fr ./ " will delete your entire hard drive. "

His jaw dropped and I showed him on a VM system what actually happens.

The morale of the story, don't get involved with an Operating System you obviously can't handle, just because you run Linux, doesn't mean your any more secure to rooting than any other system.

The downfall of the User

How would you describe your computer?

I get the "I'm a Mac, not a PC." Story every other day...

Did you know Mr. Mac User, that your so called Mac, is a Personal Computer?

"Of course it's my computer."

Did you also know that, PC stands for Personal Computer?

I'm no Stranger to the epic struggle between the Microsoft Operating System and the Mac OS.

I've also tapped into the Linux and Unix environments.

But in 8 Years, I've come to still a single conclusion. All operating systems are still obsolete.

The strong points of each operating system depend on a variety of different views. While the mac has tighter integration with it's hardware, this is only due to the fact that Apple Inc. Manufactures the boards for there systems. In a windows enviroment, the boards come from many different manufacturers and sub manufacturers for more diverse computing.

I must extend my reach to the entire Linux community, starting an OS based around a system it was not originally designed for takes some serious ingenuity. I often find that Linux, though smaller in numbers and recognition does makeup most of the modding and power user community.

Everyone knows that Mac's are for the artists, PC's running Microsoft windows are for the general public, and Linux Environments are for the Power User's. But what if you are all 3?
What if you want the hardware integration of a Mac, the learning curve of a Windows OS and the expandability that comes with Linux?

Ladies and Gentlemen, I believe that it is time for a new Operating System. Though talks are in the mix of Google Inc. attempting to provide such an answer, the closest we have yet to see is in their android OS for the G1. Other smaller groups claim the answer lies in a "supreme" Linux operating system still in development. The Mac community claims, "When the time comes, apple with come up with something better than the rest." And the Windows Community rave about windows vista and the upcoming windows 7.

So as it stands, which is the Best OS?

I'm no Microsoft fan, but I think apple got the message through to Microsoft that they are a threat. Windows 7 launches this Fall just in time for Christmas, and I must say I haven't been impressed with ANY Microsoft OS since windows 98SE, with that said... Windows 7 is truly the closest to a NEXT-GEN OS.

So what are the others lacking? Let's Break it down.

Mac is our runner up, with support for direct 3d games, and massive amounts of ports to the Mac world, Apple Inc. is going for a hostile take over of the gaming and graphics community. The addition to the Nvidia chipsets and Intel Processors makes the Mac the ideal hardware of choice. But the OS seems flaky, the dockbar is a nice touch, but all the cool spiffy software effects have a major downside, while it's great for show, it serves no real purpose. I could go till I'm red in the hands, but I'll just leave it at this. Quote me on it... "Mac has the Hardware race by a lightyear, but without the ports of major software and tablet support, what is the point of all the super power behind the hardware?" Oh sure "we've got boot camp..." congratulations! you've successfully made yourself a hypocrite! You worship your mac, so don't go using the devil's OS!

Linux, my favorite Operating System, and your dead last. How disappointed I am in you right now, the wine project is a joke, the package managers require intense knowledge of bash, and to top it off almost every piece of hardware out of the box, has an issue. With great built-in drivers support, you lack the direct Manufactures drivers to make "all the features" work. Why do Mac's have you beat? You run bash, they run bash. You run an xserver, they run an xserver. You can work on a ps3, a iphone, a Nintendo DS, a potato, and install yourself into windows, BUT YOU CAN'T GIVE ME 3D Support for my applications without 5 hours of debugging?!
Linux community hear me, your failing your attempt at a better operating system, it's time to make yourself known or give up. Fix your issues as a whole, then branch off, get support for the hardware, then build the awesome graphics oriented programs.

So ask yourself before you rant and rave. What do you expect from a NEXT-GEN OS? Why buy a quad core PC if the software doesn't get off it's butt and use it? Why spend 1200 USD on a Mac only to find out you can only use about 50 pieces of windows software? Why bother with Linux when you don't have the time to fiddle all month with one driver or program?

You decide when we stop accepting a half-assed OS, in place of the future.
